Pendulum Publications is a small, specialist publisher established in 1980 by Keith Bates. "Early clock and watchmakers of the Blacksmiths' Company" is the 4th book to be published by the company and has been positively received by The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers (see letter lower down this page). Keith has also had several articles published in Horological magazines. The company is run by a small but dedicated family team.
We started out as researchers & publishers of local interest books, but with our latest book we are exploring new territory with our first book about National and international clockmakers: Early clock and watchmakers of the Blacksmiths' Company.
Over the last couple of years, we have been investigating the export of London made clocks and watches to other parts of the world as we know that English Watchmakers went to North and South America.
More recently we have been trying to follow in the footsteps of Robert Fitzroy and Charles Darwin to find out what their influence was in South America and to discover what they left behind there. We know that Robert Fitzroy gave away chronometers in Chile and Peru. Charles Darwin is still remembered in Chile and the Galapagos Islands.
If you have any information on Clocks, Watches or Chronometers made by British clockmakers which have found their way to South America, we would be very interested in talking to you. Please contact us.
